This week the Digital Media Exit show was on display! Including iKill, it was great. I've posted iKill online as well, it's open for everyone and anyone to play!
"iKill" The game where man in competition with bugs collects fruit and swats the bugs. Man, by profession is a fruit collector and earns wages to live by. Selling his fruit and buying happy meals to eat, because we all know that is the 'real' source of happiness in man's life. Music, sound effects, an intro, a chart to show performance and a controller image to show controls on game pad. I will make another chart for keyboard user input as well.
... Just a couple glitches (especially with sound), I'm working on them though. For testing game runs through 5 day week, but only fro 8:00 to 12:00 (not 8:00 to 5:00).

Added some sound effects, some other little stuff. The name entry screen in more intuitive. I'm changing the controls to be one jump button and one swat button. Adding a diagram to show the controls on a game pad and also on the keyboard.

I updated the animations for the man getting eaten and winning the level and the game. Now the high score list updates automatically. I have it set to start on friday for now, for testing purposes.

Name Entry!!! I added an arcade style name entry activity. And name is remembered and entered into High Scores! Using arrows to select letters, and x to select and z to delete. High scores a little prettier now.

I'm still going to add sound effects, I'm thinking mario brothers sounds from the nes. Adding better animation for the man, getting eaten, winning, losing... I'm contemplating making this a 2 player game! Male and female. Give random healing pods for player life bursts. And then finalize graphics & text troubleshooting!

High Scores!!! Functional, but not yet pretty.
Other updates:
Adjusted displayed values formatted correctly. Added High Score Functionality, once the game is finished, the 5 levels, or days of the week there is a high score list to enter your name in. Made for less bugs on easier levels and ramps up in the harder levels.

More interface updates, adding the Happy Meal card. Collected fruit now goes to the Happy Meal and produces the Happy Meals earned, which then bounce around until they die (their color fades and they die) and sink into the ground with everything else. Fixed the flashing apples on level 5. Made another outcome, if the level is over and player still can't afford a Happy Meal you die of hunger. Added the man dying animation. Adjusted jump settings. Spread the bugs out on the stage. Enjoy!

Updated the interface a bit. Made a jump power bar, so your jump is dependant on your current jump power. There is a fruit basket that collects the fruit you pick. The bugs eat fruit faster. Added the day of week to the clock.

Fruit changes every level: Oranges, pears, bananas, cherry and apple!
Game is over at end of the week, player is promoted to a recruiter position, and recruits new player. Happy Meal price fluctuates every level. Exchange rate always different. Man a dead man image, still needs animation. Time clock for now is set to play until 12, but normally would be 8 - 5, like a full-time job. Bought Happy Meals pop in and bounce around until they fade, according to the number you can afford! You should keep the change, and apply it to your next purchase.
Check it out and leave comments. I'm thinking of making a "super bug" that solely attacks the man, to make it a bigger challenge. I'm going to make a high scores list, recording total money and Happy Meals. I'm also going to make a little jump bar, that will charge as you duck, to give more control of jump height.

Added space bar function to keep user on keyboard (no mouse controls). Added game levels and complexities. Higher levels are harder and longer. Game over if you die or the time runs out. Win if you complete the mission, kill assigned number of bugs, and colect the assigned number of fruit. Timer counts down now rather than up.

Layout for instructions on how to control man. Life bar and other stats modified. Must now swat at bugs with 'z' and 'x' to kill them, and they will suck your brains if you let them.
Recap: Tree grows and bears fruit. Bugs come and eat fruit. Man eats fruit for health (life). Man kills bugs, bugs kill man. Man gets points for killing bugs and eating fruit.

Updated the bug graphic to be more cartoon. Bugs flap wings rather than fangs. Shaped with a needle nose to suck fruit.

Gravity!! A real sense of weight as you control the character. A big step up from the mechanical moving up of the space bar. Changed the controls a bit. Swat capacities, using 'z' and 'x' swat with the left and right hand, respectively. This will be used to kill the bugs later.

I'm making a game for a project. I want to display it on the wall and have viewers actually play it with a game controller, like nintendo. It will contain a tree that grows and bears fruit, and then bugs come and eat the fruit, and they exist in an artificial symbiotic relationship. The viewer interacts with the piece as a human character who has the objective of picking the fruit and killing the bugs. Here is the tree, fruit and bugs in a new window. (tree12)

I am setting up a blog to keep track of my exit.

I am finally graduating with a BFA from the University of Georgia. My focus in Digital Media. I have also been studying New Media and Animation.

The week of my Exit Show is May 3rd trough the 10th! So far I know that I will be putting pieces up in the foyer of the Lamar Dodd School of Art building. I'm thinking of calling it 'iExit'. I plan to project my pieces onto the wall for user interaction. Projects will study the relationship people have with their surroundings, and particularly nature.

I will update this regularly with my news, progress and projects.
